One of the main things that I am missing with the world wide issue is Eagle News! Not just having an opportunity to be unique compared to the other Olentangy schools but because I have a great teacher and great friends. We normally have each episode recorded the day before if nothing goes wrong. Then we have "The Friday Show" which is our special show that we have each week. It is special because we have it live and because most of the school watches it. Yes that is right, we have it LIVE! It is a lot of fun because you can be a part of the live audience if you are not on the show. Ava usually tries to keep the crowd calm as Maddie is screaming "GO HYATTS!" Unfortunately, we haven't done Friday Show's in a while. That's not just because of this distance learning but before that. For some reason the program we use to record just was not working! Once we finally got it to work this whole problem started to escalate! Now, let's see what Eagle News has been doing to still give Hyatts students, parents, and staff the fun experience of watching Eagle News 2020...
Mr. Meta has been doing a call to use almost everyday, discussing what he could have us do. Well, he came up with us still doing the broadcasts but not everyday.. YET! We chose the producers for the next 3 episodes. Thursday, March 26, 2020 was Teagan. She did an absolute fantastic job! She included things like Mr. Meta's walk in the park, his family fued, this day in history, cooking, and one of the best segments.. weather! I only say that because I did it and worked very hard. I have a greenscreen downstairs for any videos I make so I used that. It turned out pretty good! Next week is Addie K. She in charge for Tuesday, March, 31, 2020. She will do an awesome job! Then, I am the producer for Friday, April 3, 2020. It will hopefully be good too! Not only is Eagle News doing these broadcasts, we are also working on video projects and a podcast. Mr. Meta asked all of us to send what our schedules have been for a podcast. Should turn out great! Then our video projects are for the news. We also have our blogs due every Sunday. We also did a video on the song "Imagine". And a music video of "We're All In This Together". My video has the least amount of votes which is sad because I spent hours editing it instead of watching a movie with my family but I still like it. Check out these fun videos we have done and stay tuned for more soon!! As you probably already know... the Corona Virus is ruining everything!!! School is getting cancelled, which may sound great but really isn’t, track is gonna be shorter than it already is, and we have to do school at HOME! I know I know, it sounds like I am complaining a lot which I am but to be fair it’s annoying. Right now my phone is at 8% whole I am typing this. I thought of what to say just now so I gotta hurry. So, school just got cancelled for Monday too. We were supposed to have it for us to know what to work on for the next 2 weeks but that didn’t happen! I’m disappointed because I was really looking forward to seeing my friends one last time before i’m stuck in my home! But at least I won’t be too bored and have my family to talk to, school work, and electronics! Plus I have many many books i’ve been waiting to read. I just had a sleepover this weekend and it won’t be too long of a talk because I can’t say too much about my weekend without getting points taken but it was good. Now onto the FANTASTIC NEWS that comes out of this whole virus.... MY SISTER IS HOME! She’s home for the rest of the school year and summer! She goes to OSU main campus as a freshman. The bad news from that is their spring break got extended another week for professors to come up with work from them not being able to go back anymore this school year. My sister was quite upset because she won’t see her friends that much anymore. So today, my parents went to campus with her and cleaned out her entire dorm. Now that I finished helping putting everything away, I can finally relax! I carried lots of things up and down so I guess that counts as part of my daily workout. Since my sister is home. it will go exactly how it was when she was in high school. So that means, only talking to us if she wants something from us, never seeing her for dinner, listening to her up late getting ready for bed at 2 am!! FUN! It’s okay though because it’s better to have her here than away! Here is us cleaning my sisters things when she was no where to be seen!! I took this a while after we started, it was way messer when we started.
You may or may not know this but, my mom, Nathalie, is from Belgium. She was born there and was raised there throughout her entire childhood and her young-adult life. This week we made something she grew up with. It is called Gaufre framboise. That means "raspberry waffles," translated to English. It is exactly what the name says! When my family and I went on month long trip to Europe, we had many different types of waffles. Many of them were like this, but they didn't have any fillings in the waffle. A popular way that people sell waffles is having stands, kind of like the hot dog ones we have, and just selling them there. They also sell fries like this too! I love the fries that they have, they have the perfect amount of salt and they are always fresh! They come in these really cool packages. I will try to explain it so bear with me! It looks sort of like a ice-cream cone, but has another little area to but your sauces. I can't find a picture that shows it well but I hope you get the main idea.
How did we make it you ask? Well, it took a lot, thanks for asking! Haha. We started off with the dough. I put milk into a pot on the stove, waiting for it to reach a certain temperature. Then once that happened we put the flour and salt and baking soda together. Once we kneaded it, we put it in a bowl and let it rest in the oven. It rises so much! On Saturday I was having a sleepover at my neighbor, Sammi's, house. I went over around 8:45 pm and started the sleepover by watching Netflix. Once a couple hours pasted, Sammi's mom, called us. She is in Guatemala for a mission trip to give surgeries to kids who cannot afford it. We watched Youtube and more Netflix and before we knew it, it was 11:30pm. So, we started getting ready for bed. We had to get up by 7am for us to leave to go to Mad River Mountain to go skiing. Sammi cleaned her room. Once she finished cleaning her room she was getting ready for bed, we talked a lot about Eagle News. Her Dad had told us to be quieter and also asked what the big clash was. We said "What clash? We didn't drop anything!" Then we went to her room and was ready to sleep.
An hour and a half pasted of us watching videos. It was 1am and Sammi saw tons of lights outside her window. Her bedroom is in the basement so her room's windows are at ground level. When Sammi saw this, I was asleep. I woke up to the sound of her crying. She said she tried waking me up but it didn't work. Sammi was crying because she thought her house was on fire and we were sleeping through it. Once we woke up, she ran upstairs to her Dad who was sleeping. He ran outside. Tons of peoples were outside of her house! Firefighters, neighbors, police. Then we saw it. A car was crashed inside of the tree and curb. Airbags were filling up the car. Keep in mind that Sammi and I were freaking out and my house, right next door, everyone was peacefully asleep. A few moments later, we found out what happened. Someone had crashed the car, most likely a drunk driver, then they ran off. So no one was found inside of the car when we noticed. Only a few of the airbags went off which was strange. Once everyone left, 1 hour later, Sammi saw more people come. It was a police putting down big red things that were smoking! Another hour passed and we saw tons of lights. We aren't sure what they were but we did notice the car was gone at 7am. There were parts of the car that had fallen off all over Sammi's yard and other neighbors. They found the owners name inside of the car but we do not know who did it. Thankfully everyone is safe! Well PBL projects are starting back up again for 801! This time it is about National Park. In the project, we are writing essays explaining research we have found about the park. My park is Glacier National Park. There is a total of 6 teams, 2 per science core. The 2 teams in my core are, Hawaii volcanoes and Glacier National Park! I have been researching since Wednesday because of me being sick and others started Monday. One website I really like is https://www.nps.gov/index.htm. It has great information, especially the things we are trying to look for! All of our research is due Tuesday and I have a lot so far so hopefully I have enough good information for me to write 3 paragraphs! This project, I have the job as an activities coordinator. So, when everyone gets in their big group, them and other classmates will do their job. For my job, I will say when the visitor will go place to place, like where to eat, sleep, etc. I like it because it is organizing!
For 8th grade we do 2 big projects, the one we are doing now and the one we did a while back. It was about making a Biotechnology Bill. Not to spoil or anything but, my group won! I was the manager and lead my group to victory! But actually, my group did a great job. As manager, I had to 1. make sure everyone was working, 2. make sure everyone understood what we were doing, 3. do some people's work.... (wasn't a real part of the job but of course, it always happens), and 4. make sure all of the information we planned on presenting was accurate. We had a few judges come and they had score sheets with different categories. Kind of like the Film Festival! They also had paddles where they said they passed it or didn't. Most of the groups got all green but one. At the end, Mrs. Brown and Mr. Frobose found the averages and the winner! Yay! During my core 5, I have study hall! I have it during Mr. Meta's 7th grade class, yay.. lucky me! It's not just me who gets to listen to kids code and play Minecraft, so does Karissa aka "Kk". She has been called another nickname but she will kill me if she finds out I said it on here! I am currently in study hall right now. As I speak, Kk is harassing by asking what a genotype is, she is learning things in science that I learned at the beginning of the year. Ok maybe "harassing" is a strong word to use but she is definitely interrupting my math take home quiz. Study hall is probably one of my favorite parts of my day. That's because I get things done, I am in Mr. Meta's room, it is the end of the day, and I can talk to Kk and Mr. Meta the entire time!
Like I've said in previous blogs, we normally do Aleks during study hall on Mondays to get it done for the week. Funny story, one time Kk decided to spend her whole study hall building paper walls since my arm crossed the line that was never established until that day. She got nothing done but I did! I like to get as much done so I don't have to do it at home and so I can help Mr. Meta with whatever he needs done since he is a very busy guy. I also have tried to organize his room but it didn't last so maybe Eagle News kids should do something so he can keep his desk neat! Or I can with my free time. Overall I like my study hall and I never know what will happen since Kk can be either happy or tired each day, we will see what happens on Tuesday! Enjoy this picture Mr. Meta took of us when I was helping Kk with science while trying to do my blog... Well all have those dreaded moment of the day where you say to yourself "Ugh I don't want to go there!" But for me, I don't really have one! Of course I have my least favorite subject, history, but the class is very fun. I have my friends, Emily, Carley, Ava, Nora and Hailey to help me out if class gets boring. It's not like I don't pay attention or give up! Trust me, like you learned last blog I do not do that and I put in as much effort in my work as I can. It's different, we just seem to make class a bit more fun if we all sit together. Mr. Frobose tends to do a lot of partner activities, which is great because not only do I get to be with my friends, I get to help them and they get to help me. We make it fun and still get the work done correctly and efficiently.
Same for Mrs. Brown, her class is always fun and I look forward to going there everyday. She always has fun stories to share (mostly about the Sims but I love it) and always has fun activities. Mrs. Brown is also a very nice person, she helps me become a better person too! Her positive attitude is always helpful if I am having a rough day. She also buys the really good kinds of candy! I usually hate reading but this year I've enjoyed it more. Books like The Book Thief and The House Of The Scorpion In advisory, it keeps Addie and I talking because the books are really good! Ms. Slusser, I absolutely love her class. It can be a bit crazy in there for sure. There are some students who aren't the most respectful towards her and tend to think they own the class. Consistently getting up, calling out, eating their snacks as loud as possible! It drives me insane but I am sure it does just as much to her. Ms. Slusser is super helpful for explaining things. I really do appreciate her patience towards our class because it must take a lot for her to not go on a rant about how crazy these kids act! I hope I can be like her and all of my other teachers when I get older and become one! Now, I am very sorry this is super long. It will just be a little bit longer for the best teacher of all, Mr. Meta! He is the one who assigned this homework so it's on him that you get this long blog. Mr. Meta's classes with me are the ones I look forward to the most. I have UA2 Eagle News and core 5 study hall with Kk. In Eagle News it is super crazy but super fun. Mr. Meta always gives a talk at the beginning of class. I have noticed that most of the kids zone out within the first 3 minutes but I like them. He always tells interesting stories, or shares ways to make our work better, or just talks about Precious! Then for study hall, I get to listen to more stories that he tells to 7th graders. Kk and I just do our homework like Aleks or just talk the whole time. I like it the most when Mr. Meta comes over because we have really good conversations. Mr. Meta is nice, awesome, a good teacher, and probably one of the best ones out there! He is one of my favorite teachers I've ever had and I want to be like him too! Again, super sorry for this being long.. I guess I have a lot to say about my awesome teachers! In advisory, I was having a conversation with Addie. We were talking about homework and she mentioned how she has to finish typing her blog for Eagle News. Her blog is about being called a "Try-hard". I wanted to do something like that since it was such a great idea but I also didn't want to steal her idea. So instead i'm doing the comments I get from my peers. I've gotten comments like "You are only smart because your asian," or "You're a know it all because you got 100% on that test," or even "My parents will disown me once they find out I did that or put me up for adoption." I am glad I am adopted and I am proud of it but it is still a sensitive topic. I've also gotten comments recently about giving people the Coronavirus since I'm from China so for this blog I will focus on "I hope I don't get the Coronavirus from you," just because it is something that has recently started.
According to "The Verge," and any other companies that focus on current events, the Coronavirus started in Wuhan, China. Since this virus started, people have commented on me having it. Some peers have been somewhat or tried to be polite about it but others haven't been. I have been showed many Tik Toks about it that I found funny but the comments i've gotten are not funny. From what my parents have told me, this virus had come from people who travelled to China then came back to the U.S. My peers thoughts are "Oh she was born in China, she has it." Actually, I haven't been back to China since I was 18 months old so I don't see how I would have it. I respect peoples questions but when I've explained when the last time I was in China after them asking, they still don't understand! Hopefully people will understand soon and this virus ends because not only is it hard for me to talk about, I hope everyone who is affected or has a close one affected will be happy again. Today and over the next week my family is watching Tillie! Tillie is a King Charles Cavalier and about 9 weeks old. Tillie is my back-yard neighbors new puppy! Their past two dogs have passed away over the past year or two, I don't remember the exact time. The most recent one, Dexter, passed away a month or two ago. He was deaf and had a tumor in his throat so they decided to put him down. Since they lost their past two dogs, they decided to get a new puppy and that is Tillie! We are currently watching Tillie because Mr and Mrs. Jones are out on a trip and their children have school and their jobs. Check out these adorable pictures of Tillie! I was very bored this morning after breakfast so I had a mini photoshoot with Tillie. (The pictures you saw above) It only took about 3 minutes because of how calm she is. Tillie likes to lay on people's lap, play with her toys, sleep and get pictures taken of her, she is also a very calm puppy who enjoys the company of friends! She also seems to be very good with other dogs which is super good for a young puppy. Hopefully I can get more pictures like I am planning on everyday so stay tuned! And I hope that I can add some videos of her in next weeks blog too, we will see!
Last week was one of the busiest weeks in my life! That is because Hyatts and Liberty middle schools were invited to perform at the halftime show of the Liberty varsity basketball game! On Wednesday all of the girls who were doing it came to LHS and learned the dance and cheer that we were planned to perform for the halftime show. Hyatts cheerleaders also performed the cheer and the dance that we did at the halftime show too at the pep rally. We just changed a few things for the pep rally since we have less girls and had less time to perform them. But it was a very fun thing to do, since we got to show Molly's dance, the high school dances and cheers, plus our own cheers!
The halftime show went so well! Everyone did so good and it was a fun bonding time for the girls on my team and talking to LMS and LHS girls! We all sat together watching the game. Once halftime was coming soon, we came into one of the many gyms and practiced it one last time. The high school coaches were so sweet and so helpful by giving tips to make us look better. We all performed and looked super prepared and super good! After we performed, I found my parents and watched the rest of the game. It was super excited and I could definitely feel the tension between both teams! I completely forgot to say that Liberty won the game, we won 56-48! |
